2020 – what a year, right? It was the time when my CELTA teaching journey truly began. I pretty much lost everything but oddly enough, I came out gaining so much more. It was the year I finally chose to focus on myself and invest in what really matters.
How it all began…
I got to Spain in September 2018 and decided it was time for a change. Before that, I was working as an environmental engineer, but I wasn’t really feeling it anymore. Spain felt like a total breath of fresh air with its new vibes, climate, and my new gig teaching English.
I quickly fell in love with the profession because it let me be myself, have fun, and tap into my creative side. But honestly, it’s not as easy as it looks. It takes a ton of patience, a good eye for detail, and definitely some planning—something I figured out over time.
Developing as a Professional – CELTA
I used to be a teacher in this little village in Extremadura, and eventually, I wanted to level up my skills. I started looking into Cambridge teaching courses and came across CELTA. It caught my interest, so I reached out to CLIC Seville, which was offering a 50% online course with the in-person classes every Friday for 10 weeks. Seemed like a sweet deal! The only problem was that I was already teaching every Friday and couldn’t take time off. Time went on, and I totally forgot about the course. Then out of nowhere, March 14th, 2020 hit – suddenly I was out of work for the next two weeks, then two more, and so on…
A New Opportunity During Lockdown
So, that’s how I ended up with way more free time than I knew what to do with. I started hunting for new jobs, took up knitting, binge-watched tons of movies, and even baked some cakes. Then, one sunny morning in May, I got a message from CLIC Seville about a fully online CELTA course. Seemed like the perfect moment, so I replied, scored an interview, got accepted, and paid 1440 euros. And that’s how my CELTA adventure began

The CELTA Journey
1st June 2020 rolled around, and I was super nervous. I kept worrying that I’d be the worst in the course and that the tutors would tell me to quit teaching for good. But I was totally off base. It turned out to be one of the best experiences ever! I picked up a ton of new techniques, but what really made a difference was the feedback and getting to watch some amazing teachers in action. After five intense weeks of averaging about eight hours a day stuck in front of the computer, teaching, planning, and tackling all the tasks, I finally made it through with a Pass A!
What finally got me here is this new confidence I’ve found. I’ve realized that I’m a way better teacher than I ever was an engineer. The freedom and creativity I get to express as a teacher is something I really value. So now, I’m finally ready to share my ideas with other teachers.
I’m thrilled to invite you on this incredible journey with me! Together, let’s create an amazing and vibrant space filled with creativity and inspiration. I can’t wait to see what we’ll build!
